Mantas Awards and Splash In 2017 West Island School, Saturday 17th June; 6-8pm 40 swimmers were signed up for this year’s splash in – and great fun was had by all. Four teams competed with each other in fun relays, under the guidance of Coaches Kevin, Scott and Alex, with Coach Harry of 26coaching helping too. After the splash in, an Awards presentation took place on the 3rd floor. Mike Fasching introduced the awards, and Alex de Chazal stood in for our president Ingrid, who could not attend. On behalf of the team Mike said good luck to Malin Leven who is going to the CIS school year in China for a year, and also good luck and goodbye to Adam Graham who is off to boarding school. Another sad goodbye was to the De Chazal family whose children Nicholas and Emilie will be missed as swimmers, and also parents Alex and Jane, who have been great supporters of the club, with Alex serving on the committee. The last goodbye was to Ariella Levy who was not in attendance. The first awards for this year’s Swimathon (held in February) were for the swimmers who had the most sponsors – Marcel Hofstede has a total of 41 separate sponsors, and for the swimmer who raised the biggest single amount which was Charlotte Chan ($23,200) Well done to those and all others who attended and raised funds in that event. All swimmers in attendance were given a certificate of thanks for supporting Mantas competitions throughout the season 2016/17, which included the swimmers personal best times for the year. Award Winners 2017; GIRLS; Merit Awards; Quisha Lee and Kimberley Hobson 10/under Encouragement Award; Tiqa Lee Dai Evans Award; Malin Leven BOYS; Merit Awards; Nicholas de Chazal and Emeric Payer 10/under Encouragement Award; Barnaby Tibbatts Brian Coak Award; Julian Chow Link to photos; MANTAS JUNK TRIP – SUNDAY 18th JUNE The splash in and awards was followed the next day by a MANTAS JUNK TRIP, organized by Fiona Tam and some of the other mums – what a fantastic end to the season it was for the kids, who had a marvelous time in Tai Tam together with their families. The rain just added to the fun, the food was great, and also a lovely way to say another goodbye and good luck to those leaving. Photos were abundantly shared by whatsap – how did we ever manage without it! A few of my favourites are here; Coaches Marvin and David joined in the fun too! A big thankyou to all the parents involved. Lastly another huge thankyou to those on the committee this year who have done a fantastic job, putting in a lot of time and effort, and to all other parents who have supported the team in many other ways!!
