HWI BIATHLON MARCH 19TH 2017
3/20/2017

The first Harry Wright Biathlon was held on the morning of March 19th. It proved a great success – with the swim leg taking part at West Island School between 8-10am, and the run leg taking part separately on the track at Sandy Bay Athletic ground. The times from each leg were added together to give the final results. Almost 100 children between the ages of 3-16 took part with distances varying for each age group.

The competition was designed to be a fun and friendly introduction to Biathlon for children, and to raise funds for our chosen charity; the Animals Asia Foundation. The final sum donated was $20,000, and hopefully helped to raise awareness of the charity’s great work in animal rescue (particularly the rescue and rehabilitation of Moon Bears from the bile farming industry)

All participants received a medal, kindly supplied by Streamline Sports. Prizes were also presented to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd of each age group. Many thanks must go to the coaches of 26Coaching who helped to run events at the track, as well as those parents and older athletes who helped with the timekeeping.

We hope all the children had a great time, and enjoyed the competition. We plan to put on another Biathlon before the end of the year!
